About Us

Aoraki Smokehouse is a specialist salmon supplier just a stone’s throw from Aoraki/Mt Cook in the Southern Alps of New Zealand. We supply fresh-water salmon to chefs, businesses and homes throughout New Zealand on a daily basis.
Aoraki Smokehouse Salmon Ltd was founded in 1999 by Matt Evans (BSc) who had a passion for the salmon industry. Having worked within the salmon industry throughout NZ for many years Matt saw the opportunity for a premium quality smoked product. He began a quest to find a Smoke Master who had similar standards and would produce smoked salmon without compromising the flavour and texture for the sake of profits. To that end Matt found Alan Galloway who is the founder of the family owned Scottish company - Galloway Smokehouse. Alan (who supplies smoked salmon to Harrods) happily passed on his traditional smoking process to Matt and Aoraki Smokehouse Salmon Ltd was born. As more people discovered this awesome product and demand grew, the decision was made to move from the small shop in the centre of Twizel to a purpose built smokehouse and processing facility. Aoraki Smokehouse Salmon has now grown into Twizel’s largest privately owned employer and currently employs 26 highly trained and dedicated people.
Continual increase in demand has allowed us to purchase Benmore Salmon and expand our current processing facility yet again. The purchase of Benmore Salmon enables us to oversee the full life cycle of the salmon and ensure that they are produced to our specific requirements.
Our commitment to produce fresh and smoked salmon products of exceptional quality only using the highest quality Chinook salmon and traditional Scottish smoking methods has ensured our continued success and set us apart from our competitors.
